Polar Pioneers is a video slot that was just released by Microgaming in January 2009. It was intended as part of a larger slot machine delivery for commemorating the New Year, something that the wintery theme of this particular slot machine does quite well. It snows in much of the world during January 1, 2009 and for that reason being able to relate to an ice cold game is something that many Microgaming customers can quite easily do.
Polar Pioneers is a slot machine that comes with five reels, all of which are organized in a way that means that you can easily tell which reel is which. There were problems in other online slots games (not necessarily from Microgaming, but generally speaking) with being able to tell where a reel stopped and started, but this game does not have any of those problems. In addition to the five reels, Polar Pioneers also comes with twenty-five pay lines. That would be considered a typical amount of pay lines for a modern video slot machine to have, so there is nothing out of the ordinary in that category for Polar Pioneers.
As far as the special features within the game are concerned, there are scatter symbols and wild cards. Both of these can allow you to either directly or indirectly substitute one symbol for another on the reels if such a substitution could allow you to win money in the process. The scatter symbol does it by redirection of a pay line and the wild symbol does it by counting as everything all at once. In addition to these symbols, there is also a free spins feature that is activated with three or more husky dog symbols appearing on the reels. This earns the player ten free spins with double the prize money. The player can also earn an additional 10 free spins if they get the same three huskies again during the free spins period.
Polar Pioneers has all the makings of an excellent online slot machine and the initial reception it has received has been indicative of the awesome potential it has.
